Today, we have several important updates to share with you, starting with our main focus: Wrath of the Lich King.
Many of you are eagerly looking forward to the launch of this realm on March 29th. However, to ensure the highest quality release, we've identified necessary adjustments that prevent us from debuting it this month.
In the spirit of full transparency, which we believe is essential, it's clear that our WotLK core needs substantial enhancements to align with the modern standards set in 2024. These improvements will require about one to two months to implement effectively. Our goal is to avoid the frequent crashes experienced with Maelstrom, leading us to postpone the release until the end of May, with the exact date being: Friday, May 31, 2024 8:00 PM (ST). This adjustment extends our timeline by approximately two months, but it will ultimately provide you with a more polished and stable product, enriched with additional features you've requested.
Our enhanced focus includes:
- Rewriting memory allocation within the core.
- Shifting more emulator processes to asynchronous operations.
- Increasing our advertising budget to grow our community upon and following the realm launch.
- Refining all custom features and addressing potential exploits.
- Thoroughly testing and resolving all reported issues, and dedicating more resources to WotLK development.
We understand this delay may be disappointing, but our aim is to deliver the best possible WotLK experience, managing it with the care and quality it deserves. We consider this new release date final and have no plans to delay it further.
Turning our attention to Deathwing:
We're excited to showcase a trailer for the upcoming Deathwing realm, set to launch on April 12th! After dedicating months of work and implementing over 5000 fixes, we're confident this realm will offer you the ultimate Cataclysm experience. Once the Deathwing timeline concludes in July, we will merge it with Maelstrom, ensuring no loss of progress, characters, or time. Our commitment is to continue hosting Maelstrom as long as you wish, with plans to initiate new seasons of Cataclysm classic after Deathwing.
We indeed have plans to explore beyond the horizons of Northrend and the shattered world of Cataclysm.
